What do to in Underhill

People young and old, skating, shoveling, and hanging out on the town's ice rink, with Mt. Mansfield in the background.

Our town offers a variety of year-round activities for all ages.

Sledding at Casey's Hill

A popular spot in the winter, this hill is located on Tomasi meadow’s public land. With slopes ranging from gentle to steep, it’s perfect for thrill-seekers and families alike. Parking available on 2 Mountain Road.

Ice skating at Moore Park

Enjoy outdoor ice skating at Moore Park each winter. The rink, managed by the Rec Committee, offers views of Mount Mansfield and serves as a gathering spot for the community. Located on 15 Pleasant Valley Rd.

Nordic skiing at Tomasi Meadow

This beautiful, conserved meadow offers open space for walking and cross-country skiing when there’s snow. The area is regularly groomed for public use. Read more about its conservation via Jericho Underhill Land Trust.

Tennis & pickleball courts at the Town Pond

Located next to the pond, our courts are open to the public for tennis and pickleball. The Rec Committee maintains them, ensuring a welcoming space for friendly matches and community tournaments.

Swimming at the Town Pond

This spot is ideal for swimming, picnicking, and relaxing by the water. The pond is regularly tested for water quality and maintained for safe family enjoyment. No lifeguard is on duty. Open from memorial day to labor day.

Hiking, skiing, snowshoeing at Crane Brook

Crane Brook Conservation District features a gentle trail suitable for all ages and takes about 20 minutes to complete. See a map.

Mountain biking

There are many mountain biking options in our area. Visit the Vermont mountain biking association site to review trails and conditions. More locally, there is a loop of trails behind Underhill Central School (UCS). It’s available to the public 4PM–7PM weekdays, weekends, holidays, and when school is not in session.

Camping & hiking at Underhill State Park

Underhill State Park offers direct access to some of the state’s best hiking, including trails up Mt. Mansfield, like Sunset Ridge and Laura Cowles. The park also features tent and lean-to campsites. More info is available at the park entrance or on the state park website

Hiking on the Long Trail

The Green Mountain Club (GMC) stewards Vermont's 272-mile Long Trail, which follows the Green Mountains' spine from the Massachusetts border to the Canadian border, plus various side trails near Bolton, Richmond, and Mount Mansfield. View upcoming events and workshops. The local chapter, GMC Burlington, organizes guided group hikes; view their calendar of events.

Fishing

Anglers can fish Underhill's streams and the nearby Winooski River (trout upstream, bass/walleye downstream). Check the VT fish stocking search to find stocked ponds and streams and VT Fish & Wildlife guides for local spots and tips.
