The Underhill Planning Commission operates under the authority of state statute, as enumerated at 24 VSA §4325. Its primary responsibilities include:
- Prepare updates to the Town Plan and present them for adoption by residents (on an 8-year cycle).
- Draft and present updates to the town's zoning rules, known as the Underhill Land Use and Development Regulations, for adoption by the Selectboard.
- Undertake capacity studies and make recommendations to the Selectboard on land development, public infrastructure, housing, economic and social development, historic and scenic preservation, the development of energy resources, and the protection of streams, wetlands, forest blocks and other natural resources.
- Participate in regional planning activities of the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission.
The Commission consists of nine Underhill residents appointed by the Selectboard. All serve as volunteers. They typically meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month (check town meeting calendar for any changes from the usual schedule). Members of the public are invited to attend and participate in Planning Commission meetings. Attendance can be in-person or virtually, via GoTo Meeting. Meetings start at 6 PM, and typically run about 1.5 hours. Meeting agendas with virtual meeting links are posted at least 48 hours prior to each meeting to the town website calendar, and at public locations around Underhill.
Approved meeting minutes for the current year are posted via a link under the header to the right. Missed a meeting & want to review what was discussed? Video recordings of each meeting are posted within four business days courtesy of Mount Mansfield Community Television at this link: https://mtmansfieldctv.org/underhillmeetings/
