Natural Resource Inventory & Mapping Committee

About the Underhill Natural Resource Inventory and Mapping Project

Underhill has so many beautiful and special places; our forests and meadows, our streams and wetlands, our native plants and animals. These natural resources are valued by residents as one of the reasons they live here.

This is a joint project by the Underhill Planning Commission and Underhill Conservation Commission and is being conducted to fulfill requirements identified in our Town Plan and Vermont Act 171 – Forest Integrity Planning.

The Town has contracted with Arrowwood Environmental to gather existing information, supplement this with field data, and provide us with maps of natural communities, waterways, forest blocks, wetlands and vernal pools, wildlife habitat and travel corridors and other information that will advise our future planning.

Once completed, the Natural Resources Inventory and Mapping Committee looks forward to presenting Arrowwood’s findings to the public. The compiled data will help us as a community to prioritize our natural resources and thoughtfully balance those resources with land planning while maintaining the rural character of our town.

The Underhill Natural Resource Inventory and Mapping Committee is asking residents to provide information on what sorts of animals they have seen in locations around town. This information will be added to the inventory data currently being collected by Arrowood Environmental, professional ecologists contracted by the town for this mapping project. The project is intended to give us townwide information on wildlife habitat and the animals using the habitat, not specific to any one parcel. Your observations will be taken through May 4th, Green Up Day.

You can enter your observations using the following link to our online form:
